Legacy Circle
Bequest:
This is the simplest way to leave a legacy for the most vulnerable seniors in our community. After you have taken care of your loved ones, add language such as the following to your will or living trust document: “I give (dollar amount or percentage of estate) to Senior Citizens Legal Services, 317 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95062, Federal tax ID No. 94-2280258, to be used for the greatest need as determined by Senior Citizens Legal Services.”
Retirement Asset:
This can be the most tax-efficient way for you to leave a legacy. Simply change or add a beneficiary of one of your retirement accounts to include Senior Citizens Legal Services, Federal tax ID No. 94-2280258, 317 Soquel Avenue, Santa Cruz, CA 95062. You may designate a percentage of assets remaining in the retirement account which will benefit vulnerable seniors in our community for years to come. This approach also avoids additional legal expense.
Charitable Gift Annuity:
This approach provides you with potentially significant tax savings and a guaranteed income for life. You make a gift of as little as $25,000; you receive an immediate income tax deduction, a fixed annual income for life, and a legacy that will support Senior Legal Services and the vulnerable seniors we serve in perpetuity. For more information, and to set up your annuity, please contact your financial advisor or the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County cfgifts@cfscc.org and designate Senior Citizens Legal Services as a beneficiary.
Charitable Remainder Trust:
This irrevocable trust is established with assets such as cash, securities, or property in exchange for annual payments to the beneficiaries. The minimum funding is $100,000 with the charitable portion being tax deductible. This can also be established at the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County cfgifts@cfscc.org or consult your financial advisor.
Life Insurance:
This is another easy way to leave a legacy. Simply name Senior Citizens Legal Services of Santa Cruz County, EIN 94-2280258, as a beneficiary of your policy. Your estate will be entitled to an offsetting charitable deduction. You can also name us as owner and beneficiary of an existing or new life insurance policy. You will receive an immediate tax deduction that usually approximates the cash surrender value of the policy. All premium payments made thereafter are deductible as a charitable contribution.
As always, you should consult with your own advisors before making a final decision about which approach makes the most sense for you.
