Every week, more seniors in our community are at risk of losing essential benefits—health care, food, and housing—that allow them to live with dignity. Cuts to MediCal, Medicare, CalFresh, and Housing and Urban Development programs are leaving vulnerable seniors without the support they depend on.
We estimate that tens of thousands of residents in Santa Cruz and San Benito counties will face reduced benefits, denied claims, and even higher barriers to getting help. It already takes years to resolve many benefits cases. Now, new red tape will make it even harder for seniors to get the care they need, keep food on the table, and stay in their homes.
The impact is devastating: a neighbor denied coverage for a critical medical procedure; an isolated senior who can’t afford groceries; an older adult at risk of losing their home.
