Our team is led by experienced legal professionals and dedicated community leaders who are passionate about advocating for seniors. Meet the people behind Senior Legal Services who work tirelessly to uphold our mission.

Rebecca Steckler

Executive Director

Rebecca Steckler has over 25 years in non-profit executive leadership, including roles as Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Administrative Officer. In addition, she holds an MBA from Seattle University and is a licensed attorney.

Rebecca focuses on day-to-day operations, staff management, and cultivation efforts support. Senior Legal Services benefits from her expertise in organizational development as she helps the Board of Directors and staff identify actions that can further the achievement of our mission and Strategic Plan.

Rosalina Nunez

Supervising Attorney

Rosalina Nunez is a Supervising Attorney with over 14 years of experience in civil matters including Elder Abuse, Evictions, Bankruptcy, Public Benefits and Family Law.

Meredith Lintott

Supervising Attorney

Meredith J. Lintott is an experienced attorney with a broad background including public service in supporting victims of crime during her years as a criminal attorney and supporting seniors through her commitment as a trustee for the Redwood Coast Senior Center (Fort Bragg) and the Ukiah Senior Center.  In recent years, her practice has focused on estate planning and administration. Meredith seeks to assist her clients by providing support and direction through difficult times.

Robert Taren

Social Security Disability Senior Attorney

Robert Ellis Taren is one of the steadfast foundations of Senior Legal Services, and after several decades on our board, we are proud to once again have him on staff as a Social Security Disability Senior Attorney. Bob is a product of Omaha, Nebraska, graduating from Creighton University School of Law in 1974, where he was awarded a Reginal Heber Smith Community Lawyer Fellowship with Vermont Legal Aid. He came to California in 1977, passing the Bar and began his employment with Senior Legal Services in the early 1980’s. Leaving SLS, he began a private practice for over 40 years centered on representing injured workers and disabled individuals applying for Social Security Disability Benefits.  Bob has always committed part of his legal career to either working with SLS or being on the Board based on his belief that attorneys have an obligation to assist those in our community who are the most vulnerable.

Bob has also litigated cases on behalf of the ACLU, served on the Santa Cruz County Mobile Home Commission and the County Civil Service Commission. In his spare time, he is devoted to being with his grandchildren as much as he can.

Karin McGuire

Provisionally Licensed Lawyer

Karin McGuire works primarily on cases involving consumer rights and Chapter 7 bankruptcy.  Ms. McGuire understands that everyone has a story, and her first priority is listening to her clients to ensure she better understands and serves their needs.

Nicolle Nelson

President

Nicolle (Nicki) Nelson is a solo practitioner who provides legal services in the following areas of law: estate planning, trust administration and probate. Nicki has dedicated many hours to helping Senior Legal Services grow. She served previously as a volunteer for the organization and in November 2020 officially joined the Board.

Victoria MacIntyre

Secretary

Victoria Louise MacIntyre is a Workers’ Compensation Certified Legal Specialist and Partner in the firm of MacIntyre & White, LLP. She graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar in 2003. Victoria’s practice specializes in the defense of Workers’ Compensation matters with emphasis on defending public entities and self-insured employers. She is a dedicated board member for Senior Legal Services having served as the Board Secretary for many years.

Melanie Cleveland

Treasurer

Melanie is a graduate of San Jose State University with a BS in Business and Accounting. Melanie began her career in audit and tax with Ireland San Filippo in the Silicon Valley where she became a CPA. She has worked with Everett Meisser since 2005 as a tax professional, preparing individual, corporate, partnership, trusts, and not-for-profit tax returns. She returned to audit for a few years to manage the Audit and Assurance team of Eckley Lombardi Giascott LLP in Silicon Valley and has now returned to the Santa Cruz area to be nearer to her family and the beach and to devote her time to tax practice.
